July 9 and 10, World Steel Association (worldsteel) and HBIS jointly held the 2025 worldsteel Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Industrial Coordinated & Innovative Development Conference in Qingdao. Worldsteel Director General Edwin Basson made a speech and HBIS Chairman Liu Jian, Chinese Iron & Steel Association Deputy Director Liu Andong, Haier Group Senior Deputy President and Haier Intelligent Chairman & President Li Huagang also attended the conference and deliver their speeches. Worldsteel Deputy Director General Zhong Shaoliang hosted the opening ceremony.

Edwin Basson made his speech of Global Steel Industry Sustainable Development and Standardized Valuation System Construction. He said, Global Net Zero initiative has not only changed economic and industrial structure, but also evolved global standards. Steel, as a kind of global industry, decarbonization dynamics is prone to EAF share, DRI, green H2， BF/converter, grid strength, and CCUS, carbon use and storage. Worldsteel takes joint effort from other international organizations and associations to play a pivot role in formulating steel standards and principles and to use fair, accurate, transparent manner to calculate steel products carbon footprints for pushing forward the reduction of greenhouse gas.

Liu Jian shared the concrete practise and sound experience. He side, LCA and collaborative development has become a key path for promoting green and low carbon transition. Global steel enterprises would continue to strengthen industry and supply chain innovation and cooperation by practising LCA concept, to deep explore and apply systematic carbon reduction solutions, and could do more in achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality and sustainable development. HBIS is willing to cooperate with global peers and industry chain players, to commonly promote steel industry with accelerated pace in green and low carbon road, and continue to contribute more green and sustainable steel goods.

Liu Andong said, the green and low carbon reform of Chinese steel industry had made progress, and a green industry chain was taking shape. As ever, Chinese Iron and Steel Association will support and join LCA efforts of worldsteel and build a mutual trust and mutual recognized partnership to give Chinese efforts in the low carbon development of the world. The green development of world steel industry could also benefit from green and low carbon sustainable innovations to strengthen its key contribution in world economy to create a brighter future .

Li Huagang said steel and household appliances are mutually prosperous industry ecosystem and also are collaborated innovative and essential sectors. The collaboration is not merely a technological proposition, it is more a sustainable development topic of mankind. Looking to the future, the steel and home appliance industries should join hands to build an authoritative standard system to lead the green upgrade of the global industry, share cutting-edge technology platforms, integrate wisdom to catalyze green breakthroughs, and jointly shoulder the climate responsibility of the industry to work together to achieve the hard goal of carbon reduction. Haier is willing to join hands with global partners with an open attitude, transforming the one-way supply of the industrial chain into value co-creation, enabling every piece of steel to carry the green mission and every household appliance to tell the story of coordinated development.

In the opening ceremony, Liu Jian, Edwin Basson, Liu Andong, Li Huagang together launched the button to show LCA+ Project achievement, which represents the joint studies created by worldsteel and HBIS in LCA+ solution of metal decoration products to integrate creatively beautifully life indexes based on LCA concept, and provides new path of green transition in building decoration area. During the conference period, WTO, worldsteel, HBIS Group and Hair Group delivered its keynote report respectively.

Leaders, experts and representatives from worldsteel, construction steel union, automobile steel union, academic institutions and pioneering enterprises of industry chain shared their insights around LCA energizing three areas in the construction industry green development, coordinated cooperation between automobile section and its supply chain, and platform building of database and intelligence system. They also took a round discussion about coordination between LCA and industry in low carbon development.

The conference was jointly held by worldsteel and HBIS Group, hosted by Dahe Metal, the conference focused on innovation in LCA and supply chain system on steel product, aiming to green transition of steel industry, and collaborative development of up and downstream in industry chain with high efficient, to make more contribution for achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality and sustainable development.

More than 160 people involving experts, scholars and representatives from leading companies, R&D institutions, and supply chain enterprises attended this conferences.
