HBIS Blast furnace gas carbon capture coupled with microbial carbon fixation for protein production project and Steel slag flue gas carbonation resource utilization project, two CCUS industrial showpiece projects commenced production in HBIS Tangsteel New Plant. HBIS wins the authorization of For the first time to use the CarbXRock brand by building the first Capture, transformation and value creation chain on industrial level. By integrating new technologies, the projects transform the carbon source or waste in traditional long/short steel making processes to a source of value chain, a revolution that CCUS has always envisioned, from carbon reduction to value creation.
In carbon capture and its high value utilization, the project uses high performance multi-pressure absorbing materials coupling with residue heat and pressure to capture BF fuel gases, giving over 95% of CO2 concentration, additionally, the project creatively diverts CO2 the carbon to bacterial protein over 70% of concentration and could be transferred to protein feed. In solid waste treatment, the new project is able to use the low concentration CO2 smoke and dust and steel slags to produce high performance green construction materials that could fix 20% of carbon with a compressive strength of 30MPa. If this technology is widely applied in steel industry, the carbon reduction performance and economic value could rise to a new level, annul carbon fixation could reach as high as ten-million-ton class, finding a new revolutionary way of treatment for slags and sources of green protein and construction materials. It could be a green contribution of world steel industry to carbon neutrality of the globe.
